In the first incident, a tanker was struck by an unknown projectile about 11 nautical miles northeast of Oman's Lima. Later the master of a tanker reported seeing a large splash and an explosion.

Two Middle Eastern diplomats said Tuesday that there had been progress in efforts to resolve the crisis surrounding the Strait of Hormuz, although no final agreement had been reached.

Iran has said the strait cannot go back to its pre-war status where shipping flowed freely, while Gulf states insist there be no mandatory payment of fees to Iran.

Although the talks aren't meant to put a full stop to the US-Iran conflict, mediators hope that a temporary agreement to reopen the strait would accelerate talks for a more concrete deal.

One of the sources said Oman has proposed establishing a regional consortium that would oversee maritime security, search-and-rescue operations, and other forms of regional cooperation.

Bahrain and Kuwait secretly carried out airstrikes on Iranian drone and missile sites earlier this month, marking their first direct retaliation against Tehran, The Wall Street Journal reported.

The crew members of both vessels were safely located by Oman authorities and transferred to shore, Dynacom said, adding that it was in close contact with all relevant regional authorities.

US President Donald Trump claimed that the US would impose a 20% tariff on cargo shipped through the Strait of Hormuz amid a dispute over Tehran's efforts to maintain control of the waterway.

“Trump is transactional, always looking for where the money is. He's a businessman; he admits it, and he's not ashamed of it; he's proud of it. The Gulf States understood that from the beginning."

"Of the 11 Indian nationals on board, 10 have been rescued so far, while one Indian National is reportedly missing," the ministry said, while condemning the attack.
