The firefighters noticed an elderly man trapped in his vehicle after heavy rains flooded the road and used a flotation vest to aid in the extraction. 

According to the Israel Police, the man was last seen attempting to extricate a vehicle stuck in water when he slipped in and was swept away by the current.

"Firefighters from the Southern District are currently operating at the scene, conducting searches and working to rescue those trapped under challenging terrain conditions," the authority said.

Emergency services are on high alert as Storm Byron brings heavy rain, strong winds, and flooding from the North to the Negev, with risks expected to peak Thursday into Friday.

Israel will expect between 100 and 150 mm of rain, with the storm hitting mainly the coastal areas, while rain is also expected in the north and the Negev.
